We will be celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on Thursday, May 17 2018. It’s the seventh Global Accessibility Awareness Day and we’re keen to show our commitment to both inclusive design and accessible products.
One size doesn’t fit all. The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access/inclusion and people with different disabilities. Accessibility is about creating environments and products that work for everyone, including those impaired by their situation, circumstance, body or mind.
As people that design, build, shape and influence technology and it’s use we want to raise awareness both within and outside our communities of what accessibility is and how to make inclusive products.
Our User Experience Community are holding various events throughout the working day, including a ‘Go Mouseless task’, a ‘Screenreader challenge’ to apply for a job and lunchtime accessibility videos. We’re focusing on raising awareness about the assistive technologies people use to access our products if they have a disability or are impaired by their situation. You stay in touch with all our GAAD activities by following us on twitter or following #MadgexGAAD18
The BBC will also be streaming GAAD content throughout the day. We encourage everyone to get involved in GAAD where they can, even if its just an hour out of your day to experience digital accessibility first-hand.
