The IAEWS Fall Congress took place in Las Vegas last month. The twice-yearly event brought together over 200 employment site professionals from around the world to discuss the latest trends in the industry.
With a backdrop of an Elvis on every corner and the awe-inspiring sights of Vegas, the IAEWS Fall Congress was a great opportunity for us to spend time with our clients and meet new contacts.
We deliberated and debated hot topics such as candidate experience, ROI, mobile, unique content and a whole lot more.
The moderated discussion track - Commercial Niche Sites - on day one, was a lively session with lots of input from the attendees. We got some great comments from our clients who shared working case studies on the innovative functionality of the Madgex platform.
It was interesting to hear ideas shared among job board owners taking away new opportunities for revenue channels on their boards. One suggestion, was to charge candidates on their niche site to be introduced to employers – an interesting twist with other up-sell opportunities. Others included job boards working together on specific projects and best practice for social media campaigns.
Day two of the Congress focused on the Megatrends of job aggregation, people aggregation and evolving business models. The comments that came through were interesting, and judging by the amount of questions raised, these issues could not be resolved in one day.
So, what were our top takeaways from the congress?
Top 5 things we learnt at the IAEWS Fall Congress
1. Things that keep job board owners awake at night…
- Worrying about the technology (if it is not outsourced)
- Innovations that haven’t happened yet and how to stay ahead
- What the aggregators are going to do next?
2. Work smart with aggregators
The ownership of candidate data is paramount - do not hand them your business.
3. Be the ‘go to’ site for your niche
Engage your audience with unique content they won’t find anywhere else.
4. Focus on your sales and marketing
Outsource your technology to the experts - allow your team to focus on sales and revenue generation.
5. Think quality not quantity on everything
From content to candidates, you should be focused on the quality your employment site provides.
