The Challenge
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is a registered charity and the professional voice for environmental health. It sets standards along with accrediting courses and qualifications for the education of environmental health practitioners. It publishes two magazines and a journal; Environmental Health News (EHN), Environmental Health Practitioner (EHN) and the Journal of Environmental Health Research (JEHR).
EHN magazine was already listing jobs for its members on its website but in a very basic form and online recruitment ads were free with purchased print ads. The CIEH saw the need to re-educate its market to increase advertisers online spend and provide a much improved jobs service to its members. It also wanted to prepare itself for entry into new (sub) markets, in a defensive move against their indirect competitors.
The Solution
The CIEH found Madgex online and we won the contract to build ehn-jobs.com against four other pitches. A comprehensive business case helped demonstrate our expertise in the creation of job websites, and most importantly for the CIEH, showed how they could maximise revenue opportunities to recover the cost of outsourcing to a software supplier.
The CIEH ran a webinar tutorial leading advertisers through the new site which taught them how to be fully self-sufficient, leaving the advertising sales team to concentrate on new business. A fortnightly e-newsletter has helped attract new site visitors and the CIEH has started to penetrate new sub-markets. The transparency of activity on ehn-jobs.com shows recruiters what is working and even though the magazine will continue to sell print ads, the CIEH has proved online ads are more than worth paying for in their own right.
