Madgex Hackday 3
On the 1st and 2nd May, the Madgex offices were buzzing with creativity as our third annual Hack Day took place. The purpose of Hack Day is for teams and individuals to ‘innovate’ together. Half the company take part on the first day and the rest on the second day. The scope is wide as projects don’t have to be technical, they can be anything that improves processes, provides information to people or is simply a great idea. It is however, a competitive event and often projects are kept secret until they are presented to a panel of judges at the end of the second day.
This year the overall winning team were the creators of ‘Mapgex’, a team of six. Mapgex is an online locator facility enabling anyone at Madgex to locate where colleagues usually sit, get their contact details and see a photo of them but also to find free desks (to hot-desk) and free meeting rooms. As Madgex expands, teams will be spread over four floors and Mapgex will help new starters in addition to current staff. The winner of the fun/interest category was one of our developers that experimented with javascript animation for his own learning experience. He made an amusing space invaders type of game to demonstrate his new skills.
Every year the Madgex Hack Day is a really enjoyable event that unlocks creativity and gets people of varying skills working together. It is also hard for the judges as so many great ideas are generated over the two days.
